MIT App Inventor Middle School Curriculum Introduced at NMSI K-12 CS Pathways Summer Institute in Dallas, TX

Between July 22-26, 2019 MIT App Inventor collaborated with NMSI (National Math and Science Initiative) and held a five-day workshop for 24 teachers, STEM coaches, curriculum developers from all over the nation.

The workshop was led by Selim Tezel from the MIT App Inventor Education Team and MIT App Inventor Master Trainer Suzan Dalgic.

The main goal of the workshop was initiate participants to MIT App Inventor’s brand-new Middle School Computational Thinking curriculum and offer insights on how to introduce the mobile programming tool in their schools. The participants worked at their own pace going through self-guided tutorials covering the essentials of a 10 Unit (48 hour) curriculum, with minimal instructions from the workshop leads. Their efforts culminated in a final project which they shared with one another on the last day of the workshop.

Most educators had little or no coding experience at the start of the workshop and after an intense week of coding, at the end of the session, they proudly surprised themselves by becoming sophisticated cloud programmers.
